When you start dating, there are deep conversations and foot rubs after squash games. What’s more important in the long run? That’s what’s under the microscope today.

Deeper into a relationship, words begin to carry a bit more weight. What if he NEVER talks about the future with you in it. What if she’s ambivalent about kids?

Actions say things about someone’s character that words cannot.

If he comes home late often and doesn’t call, that can hurt if you’ve made dinner or was hoping to go out. What does that say about his consideration of others?

When she never wants sex and isn’t interested in being romanced? That can be a big blow to the ego and speaks volumes about what parts of a relationship are important.

Sometimes things aren’t so black and white.

What if a couple gets along great? He’s supportive of her career and is a great listener. She’s an amazing lover and doesn’t mind doing the dishes.

At the same time, the things that are going unsaid can create unseen cracks…

Sometimes it comes down to what you’re willing to gamble on.

If his actions say “I’m in this for the long haul” but he won’t say the same out loud, you might just have to be patient.

If she’s says she wants to have kids, but is a workaholic, you’re going to have to have some deep thoughts on your own on whether or not you can deal with a nanny or being an at home dad.

In every relationships, actions and words both carry weight in different ways.

Words are symbols for what someone is feeling. Feeling change, engagements get broken and so do hearts. Verbal abuse and people who fight dirty can’t make up for that with a foot massage or months of cleaning dishes.

Actions pack more of a punch than words. Anyone can say “I love you”. Real love is shown by who will sits by your side when you’re undergoing chemotherapy, or hold you when you lose a beloved pet.

In relationships a good balance is best between actions and words. One should back up the other, not replace it. Talk is cheap, unless you’re dating someone who won’t open up to you. Actions are meaningless, until someone drives you to a hospital at 2 am. Make sure to talk about and express your love to the one you’re dating.
